France Will Sanction Healthcare Officials Who Refuse To Get Vaccinated

The French Prime Minister, Jean Castex, said Thursday that health workers who are not vaccinated as of the September 15 date set for them will be sanctioned and justified it with the cases of contamination that have occurred in residences.

"We will not back down," Castex stressed in an interview on RTL radio station in which he alluded to a residence in which elderly people were infected by the staff in charge of caring for them. "No one can understand that," he added.

He noted that setting the September 15 deadline for the implementation of the vaccination obligation for healthcare workers - as for other professional groups in contact with vulnerable people - has accelerated the supposed immunization. "We have exceeded 83% of vaccinated healthcare workers. Our tactics have had an effect," he said.

The prime minister indicated that the third dose that has been approved for those over 65 years of age and for people with diseases that carry a risk in case of covid infection will start to be administered in nursing homes from September 12-13.

The rest of the groups concerned by this booster dose will be able to make an appointment to be vaccinated "from the beginning of September", he specified. To receive this new dose, at least six months will have to have passed since the previous one. Castex ruled out, at least for the time being, imposing the health certificate in companies.

In France, the health certificate - which proves having completed the vaccination schedule, having passed the coronavirus less than six months ago or having a negative test of less than 72 hours - has become mandatory for many activities of social life, including going to a bar or a restaurant.
